Candy Apples

Ingredients
  • 3 cups granulated sugar
  • 1.5 cups water
  • 3/4 cup clear corn syrup
  • food colouring of choice
Method
Remove wax and thoroughly clean and dry apples. Push candy Apple stick in to Apple about 1/2 way through.
In a medium sized deep pot, pour sugar, corn syrup and water and stir. Add the desired colours and amounts of food colouring to the post and stir. Turn heat on high and place a candy thermometer in the the mixture.
Boil on high and remove from heat when can dry reached 290-295 F (as the candy will continue to cook). The final temperature should be 300 F. Alternately, you can keep in on the stove till it reaches 300 F, then quickly shock the bottom of the pot in cold water to stop the cooking process.
Allow for bubbling of the sugar to subside, then dip apples. Shake off and extra candy in to the pot, then place the apple on a parchment lined tray, with or without coloured sugar or sprinkles. Allow to set and enjoy!
*Trick* before eating, give the Apple a whack on the counter to crack the candy so the first bite isn’t a struggle.
*NOTE* Candy is HOT and chilled need to be closely supervised if helping. Keep a bowl of ice water handy to prevent sever burns. Should candy get on your skin, quickly submerse in ice water. Long sleeves and protective gloves are recommended.
